Dr. Scott Lynch became Mifflinburg's and Union County's first national champion while wrestling for Penn State University in the 134 lb. weight class during the 1984 season. Previously, in 1979, he had become Mifflinburg High School's first state wrestling champion. His wrestling achievements included honors as a two time PIAA state runner-up and recognition as a three time All-American while at Penn State. he was also inducted into the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame in 1995. Scott excelled in the classroom as well, earning a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's degree in Electromagnetic Engineering. He continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and was awarded his doctorate in 1991.
