The Wildcats took on the Griffins Wednesday night in the first round of the District IV Dual Wrestling Tournament. The Wildcats came in as the #3 seed and the Griffins were #14. The match started in a tight battle as each team battled back and forth leaving the score tied 6-6 after the first four bouts. Mifflinburg then pulled away as they have most of the season and beat Sullivan County in impressive fashion 49-9 at home in the Cat's Den and improve their record to 14-2 on the season. Aaron Shrawder was named wrestler of the match for Mifflinburg. Shrawder won by a major decision at 182 lbs. defeating Tanner McCarty of Sullivan County who came in sporting an impressive 20-2 record on the season. Picking up falls for the Wildcats were Cole Walter, Brendon Hicks, John Punako, and Nazar Mironenko. Next action for the Wildcats is on Saturday morning at Milton HS as the Wildcats will meet the Towanda Black Nights in the District IV quarter final round. If they defeat Towanda they will most likely face the #2 seed Wyalusing in the semi-finals. The top two teams in the tournament advance to the state tournament in Hershey to be held next week.

Mifflinburg vs. Timberlane Regional, NH - Won 36-27

Mifflinburg vs. Central Bucks West - Won 59 - 16

Mifflinburg vs. Don Bosco Prep, NJ - Won 32-30

Mifflinburg vs. Blair Academy, NJ - Loss 22-55

Mifflinburg vs. Germantown Academy, PA - Loss 26-27

Mifflinburg finished 4th place in the very tough NHSCA Duals. They started off their day by downing Timberlane, NH, the 2011 New England Champions. They then went on to dominate Central Bucks West and beat Don Bosco Prep out of New Jersey. The Wildcats wrestled amazing all day and made it to the semi-finals where they faced the #1 team in the country Blair Academy. Mifflinburg got their first loss of the season as they were defeated by Blair. The Wildcats then faced Germantown Academy, another prep school out of Pennsylvania that had just pounded on Northampton. Mifflinburg lost by one point but put up a remarkable showing as it came down to the wire. Ty Walter and Nazar Mironenko both went undefeated on the day at 5-0. Mifflinburg is now 9-2 on the season but are looking better than ever. They return to action on Tuesday night against Hughesville at home.

Mifflinburg finished 20th out of 44 teams. They were the highest placing Pennsylvania AA school in the tournament! Congratulations to Nazar Mironenko for finishing 4th place at 285 and David Sheesley for finishing 7th at 113 pounds. David recorded his 100th career win during the tournament!

"Just being a kid I thought I could do it better type thing. And that attitude really set me back because you know the coaches are there to help me reach my goals and I was really working against them at the time and so once I changed my attitude after I hurt my shoulder and started working with the coaches everything started to change around. A lot of the problem was with me and I just needed people to help coach me out of it at the time."
"We were that good but we weren't putting the effort to reach it and after the Iowa match we realized that nobody is going to roll over for you. That if you want it, you gotta go take it. And that is how the team as a whole changed, and that's where we are today."
